One-to-One Beauty: Why I’m a Fan

Going to get your hair or nails done in a salon can be intimidating and anxiety inducing. You may feel like you are being watched by others or judged for your questions. Sometimes you feel like have to talk to them or the stylist/beautician doesn’t want to talk back to you.

Here is my experience and opinions on why I think those who hate going to traditional salons for hair and beauty treatments should opt for mobile or one-to-one options.

Nails by a Mobile Beauty Therapist

For almost three years now, I have had Natalie stop by my house to do my nails.

It first started as needing someone to do my nails for my belated wedding reception. I was having such a hard time trying to decide on what salon to go to because of prices and I just didn’t want them to mess up my nails.

I saw Natalie’s posts on our local Facebook group and reached out for her to stop by my house – and as they say, the rest is history!

I love that I don’t have to change out of my pjs, catch a bus, or sit through all the smells of a traditional nail bar. I don’t have to worry about how much of a mess the house might be as Natalie sees clients from all different backgrounds. She brings everything she needs with her – even a big suitcase full of colours! We’ve talked about pretty much anything and everything and I love continuing to support her through all the colours and designs (and breaks) my nails have gone through.

I always hated going to get my hair cut. I would hate some of the comments that would be made about my hair or have to listen to them pushing products at you. I wanted to colour my hair for the longest time, but felt like I was going to be judged for my questions about the colours used and how it works.

Again through the power of local Facebook groups, I discovered Jenna had a one-to-one salon at the gym near me. I booked an appointment for a much needed cut and finish (it had been over a year since my last haircut) and she reached out to me to ask more about my hair before the appointment.

When I made it to the salon space for my haircut, I loved how intimate and cute it felt in there. Jenna made sure to ask questions before we started and made me feel safe to also just chill in the seat. I had seen her previous work and asked her about what would be the best way for me to colour my hair for the first time. I never felt stupid for all the questions and concerns around the products or what to schedule.

I’ve been a couple times now for cuts after I had my balayage in December and have always enjoyed laughing and feeling pampered. It really is nice to know that there aren’t other eyes on you while you’re sitting at the sink or trying to focus your blurry eyes.

The before – so many foils!
The after!

If you have the option in your area to have someone come to your house for beauty treatments or visit a home salon, I highly recommend it! You really do feel like you are getting special treatment and are not just another number or someone to push product onto.
