It’s been a while since I’ve done a book brief! I’m wanting to get these posts in the mixture again regularly because with how many books I read in a year (last year was 105), I’ve got plenty to share!
Currently reading: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure – Part 4 Diamond is Unbreakable Vol 1
I first started reading the JoJo series back in February 2023. It’s taken me over two years to make it to part 4 (there are currently 9 parts to the series) as it can get expensive with the multiple volumes per part! I’m looking forward to seeing where Part 4 leads as it takes place in the 90s and we find out Joseph has an illegitimate son named Josuke. I enjoy Araki’s drawings as seen how they’ve evolved over the years with this manga.
Finished reading: The Help by Kathryn Stockett
It’s actually quite embarrassing it’s taken me this long in my life to read The Help. I’ve seen the movie a number of times, so I have no idea why I’d never actually read the book! I borrowed a copy from the library and really enjoyed it. I thought the movie did a good job of sticking with the story – though there were some pieces that were in the book, but not on screen. I enjoyed getting to learn the characters more in depth compared to the film. Minny is probably my favourite character in the book and watching how her character evolves by working for Miss Celia. I gave this book a 5 star rating on Goodreads & Storygraph.
What I want to read next: The Correspondent by Virgina Evans
When you read the description of this book, it sounds like the perfect novel for those who love to penpal (me!): Sybil Van Antwerp has used letters to make sense of the world and her place in it. Most mornings around half past ten Sybil sits down to write letters- to her brother, to her best friend, to the president of the university who will not allow her to audit a class she desperately wants to take, to Joan Didion and Larry McMurty to tell them what she thinks of their latest books, and to the one person to whom she writes often yet never sends the letter. Sybil expects her world to go on as it always has. But when letters from someone in her past force her to examine one of the most painful periods of her life, she realises the letter she has been writing over the years needs to be read and that she cannot move forward until she finds it in her heart to offer forgiveness.
Doesn’t that sound like a book that will bring lots of depth to characters? I’m really looking forward to picking up a copy of my own and digging in!
Happy Reading!
