This is the start of a series of posts that are my reviews of different games I’ve either enjoyed or hated playing. Some games will have been around for a while already and some I will review new releases. The first of this series is the game: Thank Goodness You’re Here!
Thank Goodness You’re Here! – A Hilarious Slapstick English Treasure
Thank Goodness You’re Here! was released last August and I purchased it quite quickly. I was drawn to the art style and learning that type of gameplay was point and click, with puzzles to advance the story.
The game is set in a Northern English town of Barnsworth. You play as a traveling salesman and get to meet the locals who continuously give you a set of odd jobs that you need to work through.

This game had me laughing the whole way through. It’s so silly and so British at the same time, along with so many details that everyone can appreciate. It’s one of those games where you need to click EVERYTHING if you want to see all the interactions (or get those Steam achievements). It’s fully voice acted, with the likes of Matt Berry appearing as a gardener. I loved when it would cut to little video cut scenes of commercials – adding another dimension. The game also recently won the BAFTA Games Award for British Game!
The music is another gem for this game. If you’d like to listen to the soundtrack, here’s a link to a Youtube playlist. Sometimes it’s fun to listen to while you’re working and feeling like you’re in a comedy game.
Some cons to the game (even though I don’t really see them as major cons, but others might) include the fact that the gameplay is only a few hours. It’s very much a one and done sort of game (unless going back to get the Steam achievements you missed). Some jokes might not land for people who don’t understand Northern English culture/jokes/lifestyle. Having lived in the UK now for around 6 years, I could understand a lot of the connotations (i.e. anti-Thatcher) and jokes. Even though the art style might also look like it’s for kids, it’s got some mature content – I’d say 18+.
So if you’d like a very silly, very English, very short, cheeky comedy slapformer of a game, I’d highly recommend Thank Goodness You’re Here!
